About the workshop

Aligarh Muslim University Malappuram Centre Conducting National Workshop on Gender Sensitization on 3rd Aprill 2019.

Transgenders exist in every society of Homo sapiens but still, they are an enigma to the rest of the species. They are being considered as a blemish and consequently ostracises by the so-called civilized society. Identity is equivalent to dignity.

In National Legal Services Authority v. Union of India and Others J.Radakrishnan, after referring to a catena of judgments and certain International Covenants, opined that gender identity is one of the most fundamental aspects of life which refers to a person’s intrinsic sense of being a male, female, or transgender or transsexual person. Judgments, albeit represent the nation, cannot change the thoughts of the society.

The preposterous and dastardly contemplation of India will only be razed when the youth of this country, which represents more than half of the Indian population changes its thoughts.

This workshop is to construe the concept & insight of the legal rights of the gender minorities, to usher the pragmatic approach against the gender differences and subsequently to wipe out the anachronistic contemplation.

The workshop will be presided over by the prominent activist, artist, poet, actor and inspirational speaker Kalki Subramanium who is the founder of Sahodari Foundation which works for the social, political and economic empowerment of transgender people in India.
