Backgound and Rationale
In our country, there have been several instances of economic offenders fleeing the clutches of law whenever they perceive any criminal proceeding is going to be initiated. This has placed both the government and the legal fraternity in a dilemma as to how to prevent the occurrence of such instances and also to prevent such persons from fleeing the country.
Further, most of such cases of economic offences involve non-repayment of bank loans thereby worsening the financial health of the banking sector in India. This, in turn, has a negative impact on the economic structure of our country. Till recently the civil and criminal provisions in law were inadequate to deal with the severity of the problem. But in the year 2018, the central government has come up with a legislation to put a stop to this problem.
Under the said circumstance it is pertinent to have a one-day workshop on ‘Fugitive Economic Offenders Law – National and International Perspective’ to benefit the Faculties, Research Scholars and Students on the new legislation relating to economic offenders through expert lectures from national and international experts in the field of criminal law.
After going through the various sessions, participants will learn to:
- Understand: Comprehensive understanding of the constitutional and criminal perspectives with regard to fugitive economic offenders’ law.
- Evaluate: Analyze the international perspective of such fugitive economic offenders and its impact on the country.
- Review: Evaluate the Fugitive Economic Offenders Act, 2018 and critically analyze its lacunas
