About the Institution

IMS Law College, Noida: Established in 2004, in Sector-62, Noida, IMS Law College, Noida runs under the auspices of IMS Society, a non-profit making body. IMS Law College is the first college in Noida to start B.A., LL.B 5 Years integrated course. The College is approved by the Bar Council of India, recognized by University Grant Commission (UGC) and affiliated with the Chaudhary Charan Singh University Meerut.

About the Organizers

The webinar is being organised by IMS – RTI CLUB of IMS Law College, Noida, which was formed on the 13th of October 2018.

The Club aims to spread knowledge about the power we possess in our hands by virtue of the Right To Information Act, 2005; spread awareness among the general public about their right to get information from public authorities; tell the public the importance of transparency in governance and much more. Since its inception, IMS – RTI Club has filed more than 1000 RTIs. The RTIs filed by the club have reached a multitude of departments and ministries of the government, plenty of which have even been published in the columns of various prestigious newspapers.

Having the ability to provide the maximum information which benefits the general public is one of the major driving forces and visions behind the working of IMS – RTI Club. The main objective of providing the information is not only to promote openness, transparency and accountability in administration but also to ensure the participation of people in all the matters related to Governance. IMS – RTI Club envisions ensuring that very same participation of the people.

The club has organised a multitude of seminars, webinars, training workshops, competitions, panel discussions, and much more, which have provided a platform to the students to gain more knowledge on the subject matter of RTI.

Keynote Speaker

The Honourable Guest Speaker for the national webinar is Shri M. L. Sharma (Former Central Information Commissioner). Sir is a Post Graduate in Economics from the Delhi School of Economics (1971), while also having a Law Degree from the University of Delhi.

Shri M. L. Sharma Sir was a member of the Indian Police Service for 36 years and in that capacity has held various field positions. Sir has also served in the Central Bureau of Investigation for 18 years in various capacities and was Head of the Banking Security and Fraud Cell for almost 4 years when was Additional/Special Director.

After retirement from CBI as Special Director, he was appointed the Central Information Commissioner from 2008 to 2013 and in that capacity has held considerable adjudicatory experience in deciding the appeals under the Right to Information Act, 2005.

Sir is a highly eminent, experienced and qualified personality and is widely invited by the Law Universities and Police Training Institutions to speak on legal/investigational matters while being a consultant for various firms/companies and individuals in legal and enforcement matters.
