Dr. Ambedkar Government Law College , the 128 years prestigious institution was founded by the British in the year 1891 , with the speciality of its location had been in the High Court Campus. This institution had the privilege of being the 2nd oldest college in the country and the first law college started in south India. Originally named ‘Madras Law College’, later got renamed in the year 1991 as ‘Dr. Ambedkar Government Law College’ in commemoration of Birth Centenary of Dr. B. R. Ambedkar, the Father of Indian Constitution.
About the Summit
Directorate of Legal Studies along with Dr. Ambedkar Government Law College, Chennai is organizing a national virtual summit on Refugee Law on June 20.
The covid-19 pandemic adds fuel to the problems already they face and the entire world is shaken by the new threat to humanity which leads to even more worsen the conditions of the refugees and migrants around the world especially developing nations like India.
Though “humanity or the basic Human Rights” are recognized are as a peremptory norm ( jus cogens ) long ago, the protection of it is not possible without the co-operation of the international community effectively but in reality the sates are reluctant also equality failed to wipe the sorrow of the migrants within and across nations for so many reasons. The enforcement of the international human rights and humanitarian instruments are at question and the reasons for it are the only problem to this crisis which is to be addressed and rectified.
Despite the contribution and attempts made by the international community and specialized agencies like United Nations High Commission for Refugee, United Nations Relief and Works Agency etc. The crisis cannot be wiped out entirely hence with the view to trough light upon the problems faced by them especially during this pandemic with aim to address and aims to mitigate.
With the view to commemorate the World Refugee Day- June 20 2020, a national wide virtual summit on Refugee law by various scholars on the topic would throw light on the various issues faced by them and come up with a solution and this virtual summit will also be useful to our students, faculties our college and others and also to the general public at well.
