Lawctopus Law School presents a free webinar on Environment Impact Assessment: Analysing the Draft of 2020.
India introduced its first Environment Impact Assessment (EIA) norms in 1994 as the aftermath of Bhopal Gas tragedy. These norms, introduced under the Environment Protection Act 1986 and later modified in 2006, sought to manage and minimize the adverse impact of development projects on the environment.
Till date, EIA process sought to ensure that the development options remained environmentally and socially sensible and sustainable.
However, as the world is busy and struggling with the COVID 19 Pandemic, these stricter norms are being modified and replaced by the government with new Draft Environment Impact Assessment Notification of 2020 which, according to the experts, neglect the balance between development and environment protection.
Through this webinar lets dive into understanding what is EIA, why is it important and discuss the niceties of the draft of 2020.
