I am a student of Department of Law, Aligarh Muslim University. There is a thought to do an internship during a student life in every mind so as to gain experience, knowledge and efficiency in the know how of the field, same thought was in my mind. So I was in search of an internship that could provide me something.
In this process I was going through various platforms to find one. Then I saw an ad on Lawctopus’ site, there an organization namely Counsels’ Cottage was offering a virtual internship due to impossibility of offline internship because of pandemic. This was found by Akshay Sir who was also a good human being. Not only for legal but it can be helpful for student of diverse background too.
For qualifying for that internship there was a condition that firstly the interested ones have to send a response i.e. ‘What does justice mean to you?’ in about 300 words. Writers of best entries would be selected for an internship. In that I have been selected and was offered a 2-month internship as an Awareness Officer.
First Day Formalities and Experience
My experience with them was worth remembering one. Firstly the selected ones were directed to a WhatsApp group. Therefore knowing each other, a sort of orientation programme was kept. The team of Awareness Officers was managed by Ma’am. There was a very warm environment in the group. Ma’am was very cooperative and patient person who was always there to clear all queries, doubts which is very helpful in the completion of the task offered.
In 2 months times I have been assigned tasks almost every week which was directed through email. A Ministry of Education, Government of India initiative ‘Pariksha pe Charcha’, ‘Exam Warrior’ and International Women’s Day was also covered as a task. Beside these tasks like interviews, writings and collecting responses was given as tasks.
The final step in the completion of the internship was a webinar which was carrying the theme ‘Understanding the Impact of Covid 19 Crisis From All Fronts’ which was addressed by experts from Medical, Economical and Legal Backgrounds. After that the certificates and letter was mailed to me.
There was very humble and friendly environment in which every individual has its own space and with comfort one may get a good experience altogether. People, there are very soft-spoken which facilitates in putting all hesitations on back.
Although it is a free internship in which one will not get any money for his work but still it is a very good opportunity to gain experience and to get knowledge about how to work as a professional and as a team.
It is overall a good learning experience especially if one is starting very fresh with one’s first-ever internship.
