My Internship Experience

“Don’t wait for the right time to knock your door, turn every opportunity into legit right time”

Introduction

Hello friends, my name is Yashi Jain I am a 2nd-year law student at Marwadi University, Rajkot, Gujarat. I am enrolled in the course BA-LLB. So, as my integrated course prescribes eight compulsory internships each after every semester, due to the current obnoxious pandemic situation it wasn’t possible to opt for an offline internship.

Therefore, instead of wasting time waiting for things to get back normal, I decided to go for this new way of learning the practical aspect of law through an online mode of the internship. Hence, I did my lower court internship under Advocate Manish Kaushik, practicing advocate at Debt Recovery Tribunal, High Court of Gujarat, City Civil Court Ahmedabad, and other quasi-Judicial Authorities as well.

I got his email address from my faculty at college who arranged this internship for me. I interned under him for two months from 1st June -31st July 2021. I first send him my resume along with all the certificates that I mentioned in my C.V. through the email and politely asked him to provide me his contact details. So, technically my internship started on 3rd June 2021.

Online Internship Experience

Interning online was amazing as I worked throughout in the comfort of my home and learned so many different things. Though, I felt this online internship was a bit worthless in the beginning due to the lack of guidance and motivation. But as I had aspired to learn things on my own, this thought in any event of apathy energized me all over to do the works that have been assigned to me in this internship.

Sir used to allot me some civil legal issues to do the research upon and draft the research notes. The working hours were flexible I just needed to complete his assignments as soon as possible. Additionally, Manish sir was enough supportive and patient with me. I can ask him anytime in case I have doubts about the assignments he gave. He used to provide feedback on the work I submit. By this gesture, I got much encouragement during my online internship period.

Communication

No, I had never gone to the sir’s office. The communication happened through email and what’s app only.

Adapting to the Work Environment

Adapting to the online mode doesn’t have any trick. I just believed that whatever research work I was doing I was learning something new each time. That was the plus point of doing the internship.

Suggestions and Tips

Through my overall experience of this internship I would recommend that online internship is surely beneficial to all the law students enrolled in 5 years integrated law program if one is interning under an advocate who is patient enough to guide and allocate assignments as much as possible as in the online mode doing research on different legal problems is the best possible manner to learn and is really helpful.

Those with learning aptitude can easily benefit from online internship. But this is not a suitable form of internship for those who urge to learn only by observing practical courtroom environment and gain the practical exposure all through the normal way.

Was the Internship Useful?

Yes, it was useful. Some of the research assignments allotted are:

  • Prepared research note on a case of conflicting equites where the owner of the property mortgaged the property in two banks, one with original sale deed another with certified copy.
  • Prepared a research note on: A case of rights of wife over the service benefits and properties of husband where wife waived off her rights in husband’s properties.
  • Prepared a research note on: A case of registered sale deed executed between the parties where advance dated cheques issued for sale consideration on due date got dishonored.

I learned through this research work.
