VENATUS’16: 1st DSNLU Sports law article writing competition is an initiative by Damodaram Sanjivayya National Law University, Visakhapatnam addressing the legal issues in field of sports. The aim of the competition is to encourage and promote the skill of writing amongst the student fraternity across the country on an emerging field of “sports law”.
Research conducted in the field is minimal and the latest developments in the field of sports demand a wide range of research and critical analysis. A compendium of the best articles shall serve as an interpretative guide and research tool for judges, practitioners, academicians and students interested in the issues of law in sports.
“Sports law” is not yet a separate identifiable piece of legislation or law. Sports law is a combination of Contract law, Constitutional law, Labor laws, Intellectual Property Rights, Media laws, Anti-Trust laws, Administrative laws etc. Sports law as such is not a different concept altogether; it is a body of traditional legal concepts implemented in isolation in one particular industry.
However, the developments in the field of sports law are indicating that the idea of having separate legal framework as sports law is not far from getting materialised team:
