Office of Inspector General (OIG) invites law students who will have completed at least their first year to apply for internship opportunities with OIG’s Legal Section. The internship experience will provide students with an opportunity to gain substantive legal experience in the areas of internal investigations, labor and employment law, criminal law and procedure, governmental oversight, governmental ethics, and compliance.
Applications are accepted and reviewed on a rolling basis, however applications should be submitted no later than September 30 for fall, December 15 for spring, and April 1 for summer. Applicants should indicate when they wish to intern (fall, spring or summer) and their weekly time commitment. These are temporary positions. The numbers of positions available are limited.
Applicants must demonstrate good judgment, high ethical standards, and strong analytical and writing skills. The internship is unpaid. However, externship course credit may be available through the student’s law school.

- Must be a candidate for a Juris Doctorate degree at an accredited law school.
- Must have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 grading scale or a 3.75 on a 5.0 grading scale.
- Completion of coursework in Administrative Law, Evidence, Constitutional Law, and Civil & Criminal Procedure is desirable, but not required.
- Methods and techniques of legal research.
- Prior professional experience in government, law, law enforcement, or compliance is desirable.
Legal interns will assist OIG attorneys in a wide range of legal projects related to OIG criminal and administrative investigations, audit and program reviews, and other special projects. Interns will perform legal research and draft legal memoranda.
