University of Alberta’s Holocaust Remembrance Essay Contest [Law and Holocaust]: Submit by July 1; Best Essay Wins $ 500

downloadThe Faculty of Law, University of Alberta, is honoured to support an annual international award for the best essay written by a law student on a topic relating to law and the Holocaust.

DEADLINE: July 1, Annually

The Holocaust Remembrance Essay Award was funded initially from the proceeds of the conference, “The Holocaust: Art/Politics/Law”, which was held at the Faculty of Law in October, 1997. The Award is currently funded through the generosity of Mr. Henry Wolfond of Toronto, a graduate of this Faculty.

Essays can be on any topic, and concern any matter, provided only that they somehow address the relationship between law and the Holocaust. Particularly welcome are essays which pursue the continuing significance of the Holocaust to law and human rights generally, and to the legal community and legal education in particular.

To be eligible:

essays must be original student work

must have been composed in partial satisfaction of the requirements for an undergraduate or graduate degree in law at any law school in North America or overseas

must be between 7,500 and 10,000 words in length, inclusive of references

must be accompanied by a letter of endorsement from the professor for whose course, or under whose direction, the essay was written

and must be submitted, in hardcopy and in electronic form as a MS Word 97 or above document, no later than July 1.

Essays may be submitted in French or in English.

The results of the annual competition will be announced no later than the end of September. The best essay will be awarded a certificate and an honorarium in the amount of $500.00 CDN. T
