Role of Written Advocacy in International Arbitration Seminar @ IALS, London [May 2]: Registration Open

About the organisation

The Institute of Advanced Legal Studies was founded in 1947. It was conceived and is funded as a national academic institution, attached to the University of London, serving all universities through its national legal research library.

About the seminar

Written advocacy in international arbitration has its inherent peculiarities. The autonomy of the parties to tailor the rules of the arbitration proceedings, thus making the system fairly flexible and user-friendly, enforces the distinct character of written advocacy in international arbitration.

The increasing transparency and publicity in international arbitration, through the availability of investment arbitration proceedings, including of the written submissions of the parties, have shaped the general attitude towards advocacy in the past ten years or so.

Institute of Advanced Legal Studies will be focusing on these aspects, as well as on the approach we take as teachers of the next generation of advocates in international arbitration, with a view of this development of arbitration.
