Duration of internship and timings
This was a 15 days internship. The timings were flexible but usually lasted for like 4-5 hours a day.
(December 15, 2017 – December 30, 2017)
First impression, first day formalities
On the first day, I was introduced to the Tihar Jail Legal Branch and its staff. On the same day, I was given a research work regarding some case going on against the Tihar Jail Authority.
The main tasks involved visiting the different Jails, Mainly Jail No. 2. Other works involved going to the District and High Court with the officials in the different case hearings. One such. visit also involved me to Inspect the Jail facilities. The internship provided me a glimpse of the Jail system and how there exists different types of jails.
I learnt a lot about parole and furlough system and its actual working. I also witnessed how the RTI works in the Tihar Jail Administration. I also read a number of high profile cases like that of Jessica Lall Murder case. I also had the opportunity to meet people from all walks of life in the jail and getting to know there stories.
Work environment and people
The staff was very friendly in nature and helped me gain the most from this internship.
The best thing was the jail visit and getting to know the recreational nature of Tihar Jail and its administration. Also the inner proceedings of first time offenders was a really good experience.
No Bad things as such.
No one is born a criminal. Its just the momentary situations that bring this fate upon a person.
7 out of 10.
