The orientation was more of a group discussion where by according to the interests and future objectives, the legal interns were associated with Hon’ble judges, UP Advocate General’s chamber, Additional Advocate General, reputed lawyers, government counsels of Allahabad High Court (Lucknow Bench).

Duration of internship and timings

I did my internship under Dr. Uday Veer Singh, additional chief standing counsel, High court, Lucknow Bench, Lucknow.

During the period, 3rd July 2018 to 31st July 2018.

Timings: 10:30 AM to 5 PM.(Saturday and Sunday off)

First impression, Infrastrusture

The iconic new building of Lucknow bench, Allahabad High court has a beautiful infrastructure. I was introduced by Think India Convenor to my mentor, Uday sir in his chamber. He welcomed me and examined my interests. He had a charismatic personality and made me aware of the work, files and court number. I was supposed to be present in the intern attire from the next working day.

Main Task

Like all court internships, I had to make notes and reports on the proceedings of the court which I was supposed to attend. Mainly, the arguments involved and references made in the hearings were to be jotted down.

Best part, there was no work pressure involved and interns were allowed to attend the hearing in any other court involving other substantial issues.

Role of Think India

Think India planned meetings, and inquired about the good and bad aspects of the internship. And also committed to resolve the problems if any pertaining to it.

The office bearers always motivated us to develop and build upon skills and gain some valuable experience through out.

Unparalleled qualities

The internship was not restricted to court only, legal interns with the team spirit organised a fruitful talk session on topic “Role of student movement in nation building”. The eminent speakers blessed us with their kind words and inspired us to be a better citizen for tomorrow. We were encouraged to participate in various seminars, research assistantship and workshops under their guidance. All members were very affectionate and generous.

Loopholes

Nothing bad in particular, it all depends on how you utilise your time in court. And like Abraham Lincoln said “always bear in mind that your own resolution to succeed is more important than any other.” For litigation, they say ‘the more you will work the more you like it’.

Valuable experience

You get to see the practical aspects of law. Definitely, this internship has improved my skills both off paper and on paper. Also, it helped me in deciding if litigation is the right path for my future.
