I had researched hard, nearly painstakingly, to finally arrive at the place where I wanted to do my first internship. It was a small law firm which excited me because of all the usual reasons: personal attention, more work and thus lots to learn. I had looked up the

The cover letter is a small email you write while applying to a law firm. It is really your pitch which says "Take me as an intern" Draft it carefully and do note the following points.

The work at Global Juris Consultants was limited to researching with strict deadlines, help in drafting court documents and assisting in the court and co-ordinating with the lawyers in the Court. I also learnt to make practical arguments which you will not find in any book or judgments, processes in the court, client counseling, etc.

NCW was working on their upcoming initiative “SAVE THE HOME, SAVE THE FAMILY” due to which lots of our work was directed towards the same. We were asked to make background notes and presentations for this purpose and present it to the Joint Secretary at NCW.

This was an extremely demanding internship, so I would not suggest it to someone who wants to enjoy their vacations in Delhi. As one of Mr. Luthra’s juniors put it, “In litigation, there are no Sundays.” Work is the focal point of the chambers and all other factors are ancillary.

I also learnt how to draft a contract for the first time! The work was immensely interesting and it gave me an opportunity to look at a very different (alternative!) side of law.

Interning at the State Human Rights Commission is perhaps the best thing to do in your first year. It is not too taxing and lets you experience the kind and manner of cases being dealt by the Commission and their way of functioning. Also, such a Commission has been statutorily set up in every

I have been to the Khan Market slum, and the Jhuggi-Jhopri cluster near Indian Habitat centre with Abraham, Deepshikha and Stuti to shoot for the documentary related to the displacement caused due to the common-wealth games. It was a fun as well as learning experience for me and I enjoyed working at all these projects.

It was fun going to the HRLN office every day. Even if I was given clerical work sometimes, I felt so connected to the organization that I even enjoyed doing those.

HRLN (Human Rights Law Network) is a legal NGO headed by Mr. Colin Gonsalves (human rights activist and a renowned advocate). It has offices all over India. I had interned at their New Delhi office in Jungpura in April, 2009 for a month (in my first year).

The cordial relations maintained by the firm with clients and other advocates gave me a very basic insight into the levels of transparency adhered to by the firm. During the time when the courts were on a break, I was introduced to the corporate and other related divisions.

Its an easygoing internship, suggested for first years, but not worth it for students who want to learn law related work. (Please see that the internship experience is for HRLN, Bhopal. Do send in your internship experiences at HRLN's other offices).

A great work environment. The partners and the associates are very approachable and friendly. There’s enough work to keep you busy at all times.

I’m studying in the third year at NLSIU, Bangalore. In the 1st year I interned with the Mazdoor Kisan Shakti Sangathan (MKSS) in Rajasthan. I really wanted to intern with the organization that had been doing amazing work with the NREGA and the RTI movement.

The overall experience of working with the Commission was wonderful and I definitely got a good grasp on the functioning of the Right to Information Act, 2005....After a while, processing letters and responding to them became a little monotonous.

There was not too much work, but I did get some good work especially some really cool sports law work given by Mr. Anish Dayal, one of the two partners at Fidus. It was cool because firstly I got to research on legal issues which affected many a leading

I am a third year student from NUJS, Kolkata. At the end of my second year, I had done an internship at Mr. Amarjeet Singh Chandhiok's office in New Delhi. It turned out to be a great experience for me. For those who want quality research work in a

I did a three week internship at Malhotra and Malhotra Associates, a small law firm in Chandigarh. The first year's craze of a 'law firm' goaded me to apply where-ever possible and luckily the Malhotra guys accepted me.

Apply for your internships as soon as possible! If you apply two months before than your intended period of internship, your chances of securing an internship double vis-a-vis if you had applied one month before.
