Discussing Prisons, Prisoners and Books with Sunetra Choudhury | May 28 [8-9.30 PM] : Lawctopus Law School Book Club

At Lawctopus Law School Book Club, we recently read two books- ‘Black Warrant: Confessions of a Tihar Jailer’ and Behind Bars: Prison Tales of India’s Most Famous’.

Both these books deal with the fallacies and anecdotes of Indian prisons. While Black Warrant comes from a personal space as a memoir of the former jailer of Tihar Jail, Behind Bars exposes the underbelly of the Indian prison system that is fraught with elitism.  We were supposed to have a discussion last month, but that got pushed because of the COVID situation.

Both the books are impeccable in their own right as they narrate the untold stories of infamous ‘criminals’.

What else do these books have in common, you ask?

Journalist, anchor, and author – Sunetra Choudhury.

You heard it right! Sunetra Choudhury is the author of Behind Bars and has co-authored Black Warrant along with Sunil Gupta. She is known for her prolific work as an anchor and journalist at NDTV. Currently, she is working as the national political editor at the Hindustan Times.

As it is with every book(s), we are delighted to invite you to the discussion on the two books with Sunetra as our guest, on May 28, Friday.

Time: 8.00 – 9.30 PM

Till now we’ve read ‘East West Street’ and discussed it with Prof. Philippe Sands (here); ‘A People’s Constitution’ and had Dr. De himself come for the book (here). Then, we had TG Shenoy over to discuss the book ‘The Moon is a Harsh Mistress’ by Robert Heinlein (here). Read more about the club here.
