Summer Human Rights Institute Course on International Human Rights Law [New York, July 10-21] : Apply by July 1

Join the Summer Human Rights Institute for a comprehensive introduction to the theory and application of international human rights law. Designed for students and professionals from around the world, this immersive 2-week course enables individuals with limited time to gain an in-depth understanding of international human rights law and practice.

Take part in daily lectures and workshops with Fordham Law professors, supplemented by visits to the United Nations and discussions with members of New York’s prominent human rights community.


The 2017 Summer Human Rights Institute (SHRI) will first provide a comprehensive Overview of International Human Rights Law, and then move into in-depth examination of the following critical topics:

  • Business and Human Rights
  • Civil and Political Rights
  • Economic, Social and Cultural Rights
  • Vulnerable Groups

The Summer Human Rights Institute (SHRI) is open to students and professionals from around the world with an interest in international human rights law. There are no specific academic requirements to participate in this program.

All program courses and activities will be conducted in English, but no language assessment or scores are required.

Registration is done on a rolling basis and registrants may expect to receive confirmation that they have been provisionally registered, pending payment of the registration and program fees, via email within 3 to 5 business days of receipt of their registration materials.

Registration fees must be paid in full within two weeks of that email, or the spot will be released to free up space for other registrants.


All participants are required to submit a non-refundable $100 Registration Fee. The program fee is $2950, and covers tuition for approximately 60 hours of instruction, course materials, lunch on weekdays and extracurricular activities.

A limited number of double-occupancy rooms are available in Fordham’s student-style dormitory on the Lincoln Center campus. Participants are also free to make their own independent arrangements.

Visa information:

Most participants who are not U.S. citizens or green card holders will need to secure a visa prior to beginning the program. The SHRI does NOT require any particular type of visa to attend, and we are pleased to offer official and competent guidance to help participants determine which visa is appropriate for their situation. The process for securing a visa should be completed as soon as possible following registration, as delays are common.
