State Human Rights Commission, Chennai

Application Process with contact details

My friend got me this internship. I just gave him my bonafide certificate. But, I think it is easy to get an internship here. You must submit a bonafide certificate and a letter from the head of your institution.

Duration of internship and timings

December 2016

First impression, first day formalities, infrastructure

I was rather shocked. I had a huge office in my imagination but it was a simple office rather cramped.

Main tasks

Clerical work and nothing intellectually challenging. We are supposed to fill forms and sometimes sort petitions.

Observing proceedings is the most interesting thing one can look forward to.

Work environment and people

The place lacks work ethic. Like all Government offices, things work really slow. A petition in SHRC takes many years to be disposed.

Best things

It is a perfect internship for those who want to have fun. SHRC is situated at the heart of the city. You can go sit in eateries and while away your time during the really long lunch break.

Bad things

Red tapism has made the commission a bit redundant.

Biggest Lessons

A petition against a police officer for a valid ground would screw his case forever. He would never be able to get a promotion again.

Basically, this internship taught me how the commission works and I became well acquainted with the prerequisites of a case which might win.

No. I live in Chennai.

Office Timings

Office timings are very relaxed.

Office works only on week days between 10:30 AM to 5:00 PM.

Interns are allowed to have a really long lunch break.
