Internship Experience @ Singh & Associates, New Delhi: IPR Work, Stipend of Rs. 3500

Name of the organization. City

Singh and Associates, New Delhi.

Duration of the internship. No. of days/week. Timings

May 2013- June 2013.  The duration of my internship was 4 weeks.

How big was the office? Team strength?

The office was quite big (impressive!) Although Singh and Associates is an IPR law firm, the work is not limited to IPR issues but stretches to other fields of law also.

Application procedure. Internship contact details

I had applied on my own and got my internship confirmed within a week. For procuring internship you can mail at [email protected]

Generally, they entertain at maximum 6 to 7 applications at a time. You can follow them after you have applied and you have to stay in contact.

Accommodation: how, where, how was it?

I was staying with my relatives; however there are plenty of Paying Guests available in Malviya Nagar itself.

First impression. First day, formalities etc.

On my first day, I reached half an hour before time when no one was there in the office. I forgot to bring my personal application with approval document at home in a hurry. But the receptionist said that there is no big issue.

She asked me to bring them on the next day. After some time the receptionist handed me stationeries and asked me for tea or coffee. Then, subsequently HR introduced me with all the associates.  Work started from first day itself.

Main tasks

Generally, whenever needed the associates in IPR department used to give research work. They can also ask you to write an article on any recent issue for in-house newsletter. For that, I had to go through commentaries of each case (latest judgment) and make a report. During such course Novartis Case was in news.

I was asked to submit a critical analysis on the judgment which I did. When it comes to corporate department, the work generally given by them includes inspection of company from the portal of ministry of corporate affairs, research work and some time they even ask you to write an article.

Work environment, people

Work environment  is one of the best things about this firm. Associates were very helpful and were always ready to help you out with your problems.

You tend to remain active and engrossed with work. Whenever you feel free, you can discuss with them, any doubts related to Intellectual property.

Best things?

The best thing about the Sing and Associates internship was free supply of Tea and Coffee throughout the day and the friendly nature of associates. Sometime, cakes and chocolates were also offered by the associates.

The firm also organizes office party, which is more than what an internee expects. 😛

Bad things?

Timings are strictly followed (9 A.M- 6 A.M) and sometimes the work given by associates were never ending.

What did you do to chill? Co-interns, colleagues

We used to go to Terrace during our leisure time. There is no place nearby the firm where one can chill-out. Also, the firm won’t allow you to stay outside the office during working hours for more than half an hour. The co-interns were ready to chill out and gossip about cultures at our respective colleges.

Yes, 3500/month. Other than Stipend I was treated with sweets and confectioneries whenever there was a celebration.

Anything else you’d like to tell; Biggest lessons

Never assume that you have done your job without intimating the same to the associates. Update associates about you current status. Avoid taking clerical work.
