The Vidhi Centre for Legal Policy, Karnataka, is hosting the third iteration of Vidhi’s Public Discussions on Law and Technology. The topic for this discussion is ‘Gatekeepers of the Internet: Content Moderation on Online Platforms.’ The discussion will be held at 6:00 PM on Friday, January 4, 2019.
The discussion hopes to shed light on the law and practice around the filtering, selection and moderation of content on online platforms. These online spaces function as important public forums, which are governed by formal and informal rules set largely by governments and corporations. These practices are at the core of tensions regarding issues as wide-ranging as electoral disinformation to online abuse and hate speech. The speakers will be dissecting the social and political consequences of these private practices on content moderation, and the implications for law and policy.
Asmita Basu, Programmes Director, Amnesty International
Berges Y. Malu, Head of Public Policy, ShareChat
Vinay Kesari, Technology Lawyer and Writer
The discussion will be followed by the screening of the short film ‘The Moderators’, on the content moderation industry in India.
