About the Conference 

“The greatness of a nation can be judged by its way its animals are treated”. According to Article 51(A)(g) of the Indian Constitution, It is the fundamental duty of every citizen of India to have compassion for all creatures”.  Though the Rule 3 Of Slaughter House Rules,2001 states that “Animal sacrifice is illegal in every part of the country” it lacks practical application in the present scenario. Various studies have proved that protecting animal rights is an indispensable duty of the State.

Protection of animal rights and the role of judiciary has become a burning issue in the present scenario in India. Statistics prove that a majority of animal are subjected to exploitation and denial of rights.

Hence Saveetha School of Law, Saveetha University has planned to organize a one day  Inter Disciplinary International Conference on Emerging Trends in Animal Rights on the  8th of June 2018, for the purpose to study the need of protection of animal rights and the issues and challenges vested with respect to this research gap.

Objectives of the Conference
  1. To understand and study the need of protection of animal rights and ascertain the role of judiciary in protecting the rights of the animals in India.
  2. To Study the issues and challenges faced by the government and the  judiciary in protection of animal rights in India 
  3. To create awareness among  individuals about the need for protection of animal rights in India.
  4. To analyze the issues and challenges faced by the by the government and the  judiciary in protection of animal rights in international context.

Call for papers 

Please email your abstract as an MS-Word (.doc, .docx) file without any identifying references to & with the subject-line “abstract submission”. The document shall contains the title of the proposed paper, name of the author(s) and name of the institution(s).

Abstracts are due by 11:59 PM GMT on 15th May 2018.

Abstracts must not exceed 800 words. Co-authorship is allowed.

Abstracts will be selected through a double blind peer-review process. Selection will be based on originality, method, relevance to the conference theme as well as geographical and social balance. Only one abstract per author will be considered. Selected authors will be notified in due course. Draft papers will be due on 26th May 2018.
