Professors Emily Owens, Dara Lee and Gunjan Sharma are looking to hire a number of law student research assistants.
The aim of the project is to assess the social and economic effects of alcohol control and prohibition policies in India.
The primary task of each research assistant will be to document the minimum legal drinking age and prohibition regulations in the following Indian states:
- Madhya Pradesh
- Tamil Nadu
One student for each state will be hired. In case an RA is very good, he/she might be required to cover 2 or more states by traveling to neighboring states.
The time period of interest is between the years 1980 and 2010. For changes in minimum legal drinking age our focus is on the years 1998, 1999, 2004, and 2005.
The research assistants should be prepared to physically go to local law libraries to track down legal documents that are not available online. As such, we are looking for research assistants who reside in (or are in close proximity to) the states of interest and have access to local legal documents.
The ideal candidate should have excellent legal research skills, preferably with experience in researching the history and amendments of state-level statutes.
Other qualifications include attention to detail and familiarity with MS Word and Excel. The chosen candidates will receive competitive compensation and should expect to complete the research task within 3-5 weeks, with an additional bonus for successful completion within 3 weeks.
Interested candidates should email their CV and cover letter indicating which state they are interested in researching to [email protected].
