First impression and formalities:
First day is always filled with a lot of excitement and anxiousness.
I was supposed to report at the firm by 9.00 AM . The office timings are from 9 AM to 9 PM , but the interns are permitted to leave at any time after 5 30 A.M.
The firm is located on the Second floor of a building in Providence Road.
The proprietor of the firm is Adv Geopaul and he has seven associates. They mainly deal with criminal trials and family matters. Adv Geopaul is one of the best trial advocates in Kochi .
I reached office by 8:50 A.M. on the first day and I sat clueless in the visitor’s room. Couple of minutes later I was called into the cubicle of Adv Geopaul.
What struck me the most was his friendly demeanor . He asked me a few questions like what my area of interest was and then he did everything possible to make me comfortable.
The first tip he gave me was that a good trial lawyer always keeps all his five senses open.
There was a lot of research work.
I was also asked to draft divorce petitions, bail applications and so on. Yet another interesting task was to translate complaints written in the local language to English.
I also got the opportunity to interact with a few clients.
This firm is right in the heart of the city. There is a quaint tea shop (chaya kada) in the first floor of the building and several restaurants in the vicinity.
P.G. accomodation and hostels are also many in number. This firm gives you a lot of freedom. If you are industrious and ready to learn you can gain a lot from this internship experience.
