Farewell Ceremony 2016-17
Farewell Ceremony [2016-17]

Tel Aviv’s diversity, innovation, creativity, and community are synonymous with Israel’s largest and most comprehensive institution of higher learning, Tel Aviv University (TAU).

As a center for advanced research, TAU’s Buchmann Faculty of Law is among the world’s top academic institutions. TAU’s global outlook informs innovative research and teaching methods, as it strives to address the most pressing challenges in our society today through distinct and multidimensional approaches. The university is proud of its rich academic ecosystem—paving the way for researchers and students to collaborate with academic institutions and industries both locally and abroad.

Varsha Mohan, from the 2016-17 cohort of the Parasol Foundation International LL.M. program and currently an assistant professor in one of India’s leading universities, feels that the LL.M. program presented her with the opportunity to interact with students from all over the world and learn about their culture. “We also had professors from top global universities.  They created an open and engaging environment in the classrooms for the exchange of ideas and knowledge,” she says.

In line with TAU Law’s interdisciplinary approach, the university has professors and researchers providing expertise drawn from a range of different faculties. TAU Law is also home to diverse perspectives, whether within the student body or from among guest lecturers.

Pulkit Mogra, from the 2018-19 batch, is currently working as an assistant professor at the University of Petroleum and Energy Studies in Dehradun, India. “Israel is one of the world leaders when it comes to developing technology, be it for defense, business and privacy or for social causes. For lawyers who want to specialize in technology, this can be one such opportunity to get the first-hand experience, to learn, intern and research with prominent professors, law firms, and tech hubs. Lastly, it offers a very attractive program for the human rights specialization as well, which provides a very holistic experience on conflict resolutions, application of human rights and how the issue has been dealt with across different geographical regions, including the Middle East, he says.”

TAU Law believes that learning extends beyond the classroom — students experience the vibrancy of Israeli and campus life. TAU Law invests in giving students unforgettable experiences with field trips across the country:- from the Golan in the North to the Dead Sea in the south. Pulkit also feels that apart from the tours within the country, a visit to the campuses of tech giants such as Google gives you an understanding of the working culture in the region.

Varsha maintains that interacting with the local communities in the country is just as important. “I had a volunteering opportunity with an NGO that worked with the African Asylum Seekers in Tel Aviv. This helped me observe and learn about human rights at the grass-roots level,” she says.

The skills gained at the program are particularly relevant in today’s global business environment. “Tel Aviv offers engagement with wonderful faculty and professionals, which makes it an attractive place for networking,” says Pulkit. He states that Indian interests have witnessed an expansion into new territories in the global business arena in recent years.

This, in turn, has opened doors for lawyers practicing international law and technology and business law – specializations that are fostered here in TAU. “The Israeli perspective, which incorporates the legal practices of different nations in their program, proves to be very beneficial for Indian students when they return home,” Pulkit adds.

The team at the Parasol Foundation International LL.M. Program is dedicated to pushing the frontiers of knowledge and discovery to shape a better future for the world. Come be a part of this story!
