First impression, first day formalities, infrastructure

The first day I was introduced to the legal advisors of the company. They were very friendly and made me quite welcome.

Since I am a business law student I wanted to know about the practicality and applicability of laws in business.

So I went for this internship. There is a lot of work to do and it is very much necessary that they meet the legal crtiterias and standards. It was quite a busy office.

Main tasks

My main task was to assist the lawyers and advisors in their day to day activities in preparing contracts, legal documents , etc.

Also I researched on the cases assigned to me and the legal aspects of the company and understand the legal needs of the company. I was ask to research various laws and statutes related to the company’s legal aspects.

One of my major task was to study the legal impact of tax in an industry, how it applied and the various taxation cases which was great.

Work environment and people

The work environment is good and the seniors are helpful and willing to explain any problems or queries.

However, the fact remains that they are also very busy and it is expected of you to maintain professionalism at all times.

Best things

The best things of the whole internship experience is that I got to learn a lot about the application of laws in business and how a business works.

It is very different to read about laws and to see them applied practically.

There are literally hundreds of things one has to keep in notice to make the business legally valid, all of which is not taught in any college curriculum

Bad things

The bad thing or basically the thing I disliked about the internship is that transportation was not that easy .

Biggest Lessons

The biggest lesson I learnt is that legally securing the business on all fronts is a whole different ballgame altogether than what is taught in books.

Every thing must be run over a fine comb so that there is no chance of error.

Another lesson learned is that drafting of business contracts or negotiations cannot be in a fixed format, it must always be flexiable and able to be improved in the last minute, for which there should be knowledge of all laws, statutes and great drafting skills.

I am from Guwahati itself so I commuted from home.

Office Timings

My office timings were generally neither strict nor that flexible.

I was expected to be there before the office started that is at 10.00 a.m but generally it got over by 5.00 pm, depending on the work load the timings changed ocasocassina but it was ok.
