Internship Experience

As a part of the winter internship program of Symbiosis Law School, I got the opportunity to become a part of one of the most trusted NGOs working on the rights of children-CRY, Bangalore. This internship was provided to me through the training and placement cell of my college. However, one is free to directly contact the NGO for the internship through their online portal.

The NGO followed a very clear-cut process of selection, with a detailed written CV having specific questions to access the candidate’s interest, followed by a telephonic interview.

Since it is a time of the pandemic, the Internship was done through online mode. However, because I along with other co-interns was provided with a mentor, who was there to assign the task as well as a guide to every intern on a one-on-one level, which made me understand and execute the work very efficiently.  However, since it is a non-profit organization, no stipend was paid.

The main task for me was to prepare creative academic modules for school students and help the NGO in research and writing.

The internship helped me to explore writing skills more creatively, as compared to formal research and writing. As the NGO understood it well that the interns were law students and can have other commitments, hence, no hectic tasks were not provided to us and it did not hamper my other commitments. At the same time, I was provided with proper manageable deadlines to complete the task.

Although I did experience some difficulties in executing the task, the guidance of a mentor and the support of co-interns helped me out with the tasks.

Therefore, the overall experience interning with CRY was enjoyable and rewarding. I was able to seek guidance for slightest of the doubts. I consider it to be a preferable internship for law students in their first years, as it would help them understand the basics of what an internship is and how can one go about it.
