Process of Application

I came to know about Sir’s internship program via his LinkedIn Post and contacted him through Whatsapp and sent my CV. After some time a confirmation message was sent to me stating that I am selected. Later, I came to know that Sir’s mail I’d also be used to contact him for an internship.

First Day Formalities & Impression

As the internship was online, everything was conducted via Google meet. Sir gave a general introduction and introduced his approach regarding the internship program. He also tried to make us all comfortable and requested us to be interactive during sessions. It was decided that the batch will be divided into two groups and sessions will be done on alternate days.

Overall, I liked the introductory session and concluded that Sir is quite punctual regarding his timings and expected us all to be the same.

Main Tasks

Tasks completely depended on the Sessions held by him and what he taught us during those sessions. In brief, we were asked,

  • To Draft Sample Legal Notice concerning Cheque Bounce
  • To Draft Sample Rental Agreement
  • To write an article under 1500 words (List of topics were provided and we had to choose one of them it was an article writing competition with cash prizes and participation was  mandatory for all)
  • To Frame an argument with regards to cases provided by him
  • To actively speak during arguments and debate sessions

Work Environment

Work Environment was something that every intern would wish to be a part of. Working Hours were flexible. Generally, session timings were adjusted with the needs of interns. Interns were free to contact Sir and the Internship coordinator at any point in time-related to any legitimate issue.

Bad Things

There wasn’t any bad thing. The only thing which disappointed me was the online mode of the internship. If the internship would have been offline, the exposure would have been far better.

There was no stipend as such. As mentioned in the main tasks section, there was an article writing competition which had a cash prize of Rs. 1100, Rs. 800, and Rs. 500 for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place respectively.

Accommodation, Commuting to Office

As informed earlier, the mode of the internship was online so there were no issues related to accommodation and commuting to the office.

Lessons Learnt

The sessions were mostly practical. I learned the basics of drafting related to the rental agreement and legal notice related to Cheque bounce cases. I also had a brief idea about the Hindu Marriage Act 1955, Rape laws in the Indian Penal Code, First Information Report (FIR), calculating court fees, and Section 138 of Negotiable Instrument Act 1881. Further, I learned basics related to framing arguments and cross-examination of the witness.

Overall, the learning was related to litigation, drafting, and Court Procedure.

Anything Else

Diversity of Interns

Interns of our batch came from various law schools ranging from NLU’s to Non-NLU’s, Private and Govt. Law institutes. The eligibility for internship was very wide due to which we had students from the first year to last year. The diversity of interns helped me to make more connections and also enhanced my interactive skills.

Any Advice for Future Interns

If you want to dedicate your future in litigation and you lack related skills i.e. drafting, then blindly for his internship. However, I am not very sure about those who have some other plans about their future. Try to be punctual and you are going to love the work environment.
