First day formalities, infrastructure, first impression

We were all required to introduce ourselves on the WhatsApp group. The team was extremely friendly. We soon got on a conference call to discuss the plan for the internship. All our ideas, as interns, were appreciated and considered.

Main Tasks

Since the internship was online, we could not conduct any field research as we would otherwise have been required to do. Our main task was to conduct research by searching for the relevant information through local and national newspapers, and other new sources, including via Twitter. We were asked to draw up a report on custodial violence and torture in India.

Work Environment

Our mentor, Advocate Tanvi Sharma, was extremely friendly and helpful. She was always available to reach out to over WhatsApp or call, and helped us find sources whenever we fell short. She even gave us lots of general advice regarding law school, and the work life of a lawyer. Even the other mentors were always helpful and friendly towards us.

Good things

We got to learn a lot about the relevant topic of research, not just in terms of the legal position on it, but also the ground realities.

Bad things

The internship being online we did not get the benefit of the full field experience.

Stipend (if any)

Accommodation, Commuting to the Office
