The annual sports festival of the National Law School of India University, Spiritus, needs no introduction in the Law School fraternity of the country.
Spiritus is the country’s first sports festival conducted exclusively for Students of Law and it endeavours to encourage brotherhood and camaraderie among law students throughout India.
This year, the fest is happening from the 24th to 26th of August.
As it steps into its thirteenth year, Spiritus brings with itself the promise of unadulterated, unbridled love of the Game. “Play hard, Play fair” goes the Spritus 2013 motto, and it is this spirit that we hope will pervade through the event.
Spiritus incorporates a healthy mix of outdoor contact and non-contact sports, racquet sports, as well as several indoor games. In addition, several informal events such as sports quizzes, screening of movies with sports-centric themes and competitions for spectators help liven up the atmosphere at the event.
Presenting a unique blend of indoor and outdoor events, Spiritus boasts of a number of events including Football, Basketball, Volleyball,Throwball, Hockey, Table Tennis, Chess, Carrom, Tennis, Badminton, Gaming, Tug-of-war and Arm Wrestling.
This year, we are proud to introduce for the first time a range of athletic events as well, including within its ambit the 100m, 200m, 400 m, 1500 m, 4×100 m Relay, Long Jump and Shot put.
Spiritus 2013 is spread over three diverse venues – the NLSIU campus, The Club, and the prestigious Netaji Subash Sports Centre, Sports Authority of India. With technical, infrastructural and collaborative support from the Sports Authority of India, the Government of India’s nodal agency for promotion of sports in the country, and organizational assistance from The Club, Spiritus perhaps is, and will continue to be, India’s most professionally organized sports festival at the university level.
However, the aim of Spiritus is deeper and extends far beyond mere proficiency in sport: it is to show that despite immense competition in different facets of life, all of us still retain within us that sense of self which shall not allow our sportsmanship to be overshadowed by material considerations.
So, at the outset, NLSIU welcomes you to Spiritus 2013 this August 24th, and hope that the essence of this festival is captured and manifested in the every possible way during the course of these three days.
