Duration of Internship
10:30 am – 4:30 pm, 5 days working
I had once visited the office of the Commission in regards to the internship due to my zealto work with NHRC, where I got to know that they have a short term internship program as well.
I applied for the internship on 3 Feb 2018. I received the acceptance email by NHRC on 8th of February, which is very rare to get selected in such a short span therefore, I suggest applying in advance. The first day of the internship was an orientation day, where we were given the brief about the various divisions of the Commission and functions as well as powers.
We also got a chance to speak to various officers of the Commission, who helped us understand the manner in which complaints were to be scrutinized through the online complaint mechanism.
The best thing about the first day was, that we were issued Human Rights Pledge by the Commission which gave us the sense of belonging. It was a very multi cultural experience as out of the group of 15 interns most of them were from W.Bengal and various other states. I was the only one from Delhi-NCR & northern states.
During our internship we worked with the law division- Scrutiny branch, where we had to summarize the 5 files each day. We also had to submit a 60 page report on the “Status of Human Rights” in your respective states.
The Manav Adhikaar Bhawan is located near INA market Vikas Sadan, with the Vigilence as well as Ministry of Finance are in the same vicinity. Therefore the environment is very formal and very strict entry-exit rules prevail. Though we can visit the canteens of the other ministries that provide good home cooked meals at a very reasonable rate.
The library of the Commission is huge that is where we were supposed to work in the computer lab of the commission which is a good part, that you don’t have to carry your own laptop to the office.
It provides overall a good experience to closely witness the functioning and to understand the powers of NHRC.
If anyone who is passionate and interested to work in the field of Human rights then, they must try to take up the opportunity to work here.
