The process to apply in the National Legal Services Authority is not a tedious task. One may apply to the Authority by sending an email on the Email ID: or

The email shall contain a detailed CV of the applicant along with an application/ cover letter which exhibits the reason as to why the applicant wants to do internship with the renowned Authority.

Apart from this the letter must also contain the time span during which the applicant want to be the part of the Authority and do the internship.

I emailed my cover letter along with my CV 3 months prior from the date of internship.

Duration of Internship and timings

The Authority offers internship twice the year, i.e, one during Summer in the month of June-July and other during Winter in the month of December- January.

I interned during Summer and the duration of my internship was approximately one month, i.e. from 30th June, 2016 to 20th July, 2016.

First impression, first day formalities, infrastructure

The fist day at the office was really comfortable. All interns reached the office by 10:30 in the morning in formal attire though wearing formals was not at all compulsory.

Soon the Under Secretary came and all the interns gave their introduction to him. After the introduction session all interns were divided into a group of 2 and were entitled with their respective work for the day.

The infrastructure of the office is not so good and the office is not so spacious however the interns were made to sit in the Conference hall which was spacious enough.

Main tasks

The interns were given a new work everyday and were not left idle. First day the interns were divided into a group of 2 and were giving petition on which they were told to make a report and then present the same in front of everyone.

The second day the interns were divided in a group of 4 and were given case files which they had to present in front of the Member Secretary of NALSA.

On the remaining days of the internship we had field visits to places like Parliament, Police Station, Juvenile Justice Board, Observation Homes, Rohini Jail, High Court and Child Welfare Committees.

Work environment and people

The work environment was really very comfortable.Everyone around was really helpful and supportive. The Under Secretary, Mr. Ravichandran is really a good man with a good intellectual level.

If you are an interactive and an inquisitive person then you can definitely make good contacts with the dignities around.

The fellow mates were really good as well and were from different universities across India.

Best things

The best thing I encountered with during the internship was that if you are willing to learn then this is the best place to do so. You can not only learn from the office mates but also from your fellow interns.

Since, I did my internship when I was in my Ist Year therefore, I learned a lot as my fellow interns were senior to me and taught me a lot.

Going to field visits and meeting the law professionals and listening to their experiences was like a cherry on the cake as one could not think of going to such places of their own and meeting the experienced personalities.

Bad things

There was nothing bad which I found during my internship period.

No stipend

Biggest Lessons

Learn every bit of the internhip. It is a golden chance and an internship which you would always remember.

Do enjoy it too but not on the cost of your learning procedure.

Learn from the work given to you and enjoy your work too.

These are the small lessons I learned during my first professional internship at the National Legal Services Authority (NALSA).

Since I am a Delhiite therefore, I didn’t require any PG.

Moreover the office is close to Udyog Bhawan Metro Station as well as Khan Market Metro Station. Thus, its easy to reach there via Metro.

Office Timings

The office timings are from 10:30 a.m to 5:30 p.m. However if the work got over early then interns were allowed to leave the office premises before the prescribed time.

The office timings were really flexible and not at all strict.

The office was closed on every Saturday and Sunday.
