How big was the office? Team strength?
It was a huge building with different large departments, library, offices and court rooms.
Application procedure. Internship contact details
The application is a simple procedure where the application has to be sent along with your Curriculum Vitae to the Assistant Registrar.
Mr. Iqbal Ahmed is the present Assistant Registrar in National Consumer Dispute Redressal Commission, New Delhi.
Accommodation: how, where, how was it?
I stayed at my Uncle’s place in Noida.
Since it was far away from the commission, I used to board metro, which was the best conveyance available.
First impression. First day, formalities etc.
On my first day, I witnessed a court proceeding but before that one has to report to Asst. Registrar’s Office, so after the court proceeding I made my visit to the Asst. Registrar office and reported him. I was with my colleagues as co-internees. Then we had a break of one hour.
After that we went to the Library and started reading about purpose, provisions and scope of Consumer Law. From the next day onwards we started visiting different Sections like Appeal Section, OP Section, Filing, Diary and Dispatch Section etc. In all these sections we met the respective heads and who told us about the work and curriculum of that particular the section.
We got an opportunity to meet several consumer lawyers who gave us insights about the Consumer Law, the power that consumer has now, the kinds to suits that can be filed and other intricacies.
Being in the first year, it’s really hard to get any work there but somehow I managed to get some work. I was given the task of preparing the Files for the Judges.
Other than that, I was asked to go through files and make a case analysis. Being an internee, I wasn’t overburdened with heavy tasks, but only with some clerical work with witnessing the court proceedings.
Work environment, people
The people there were really cooperative. But because of the huge work, all of them were quite busy with case files. But whenever any problem occurred, the employees helped us.
The commission provided us all the facilities and environment that is needed for proper learning and experience. Summers in Delhi are so hot, which make it very unpleasant atmosphere. Thanks, to the air conditioning in the office, which made us feel relaxed and chilling.
The Court of Hon’ble Justice Malik, was the best thing which happened to me. His Lordship used to dispose off his cases in minutes providing speedy justice to all.
The Librarian, she told us about all the things that happen in the Commission, also she asked all the members she knew to provide us work.
There is no substantial work. You only get to observe not practice. And generally we used to sit doing nothing but only doing chit-chats.
What did you do to chill? Co-interns, colleagues
Sitting in the Canteen during the break time and chatting. And when you are in New-Delhi except the hot summers, you have got so many things to do.
Anything else you’d like to tell; Biggest lessons
During your first year internship you have to earn work, because knowledge alone never counts it’s the application that is much more important.
