Brief Note on Chandhiok sir
Chandhiok sir is one of the eminent lawyers in the Delhi High Court. He also visits the Supreme Court few times in the month but generally works at the High Court.
He has been the President of the Delhi High Court Bar Association for 5 times. He also was the Additional Solicitor General of India in 2009.
Work at Internship
Firstly, you will have to report at his office in defence colony on the day you start with your internship. Before starting up the internship session, an Introduction with Chandhiok sir is a mandate. After you meet him, you will be given the Court passes at the reception of his office.
Generally, you have to report 6 days a week, Sunday being a Holiday, though the Associates working under Sir don’t get that also. Saturday is a half day.
From Monday to Friday, you’ll have to report to the courts at 10.30am. Then from court to the office (Defence Colony) by 4 pm. In Case you’re an outsider, connectivity via buses and metro is quite available on these routes. From office , you can leave by 7 pm.
Generally you’re given research work from Sir and his associates. A bit of drafting some pity things is also given. Since it’s a big lawyers office, you won’t get to draft petitions or applications.
About the Office
Office is of 4 floors in defence colony. Basement has the printing section accompanied with some associates sitting over there.
Ground Floor consists of Sir’s Cabin which is marvellous and also 2 other conference rooms and a reception. First floor consists of a library and various other small chambers where Sir’s associates have a seat for task.
A kitchen is also there from where you can order free coffees/tea all day just by a ring sitting on your seat. Interns are given a seat in the library where there are 2 desktops on which they can work.
Library is amazing and of its kind. Second floor is occupied by Karan Sir who is Amarjit Sir’s Son. There is a Defence Colony Market(Sector C) walking nearby the office where you’ll be getting anything you want, from cheap to expensive.
You get to have free unlimited snacks every day in the evening like fruits, cold drinks, pasta, burgers, sandwiches etc. and the menu changes itself daily. The office looks as if I would give it a 3 star Hotel.
You get to learn from the research work you’re given. The timings are not very strict. You can take a leave whenever needed.
And obviously working under him gives you a chance to visit Delhi High Court and observe great lawyers arguing. Also Delhi High Court has 3 canteen out of which the Main Canteen is great and very cheap.
And of course a certificate from such a big name will give some help to your CV.
The only drawback for this internship might be that you’re not given any other work other than research.
Suppose you are an interested student who wants to learn drafting, and small works such as filing petition, searching the cause list, this is certainly not the place for you. This is a very chill internship.
It is a very nice environment. It is a place where you can do whatever you want. If you want to chill, you can do that.
If you want work, then you can ask the associates to give you the work and you will learn something. The staff is also very friendly and helpful.
No stipend is given.
The office is in Defence Colony which is nearest walking distance of 8 minutes from the Moolchand Metro Station on the Violet Line. You can find PG’s in the nearby areas such as Lajpat Nagar, Moochand and Kailash Colony.
One of the PG’s which found good was in Kailash colony at a reasonable price. I am attaching the link through which you can find it here.
One more dealer (Ram) is there who can arrange you a descent accommodation at cheap price. His number is (09711731312).
Otherwise, Laxmi Nagar is always available for PG’s in Delhi as it is the hub of it. Though it is far from defence colony.
For reaching office in defence colony from the Delhi High Court, the Bus number (623) is available which is the most convenient. Otherwise, from metro, Moolchand Metro Station is at a walking distance.
Google apps also will help you in travelling such as Delhi Metro App and Delhi Bus app.
