LP Agarwalla and Company, Kolkata, 6 junior lawyers and 2-3 interns
Application Process with contact details
I had to go there personally to submit my CV and approach the senior of the firm, he asked me to contact him after a week after which I got my internship.
Duration of Internship and timings
March 18, 2015 – April 17, 2015
First impression, first day formalities, infrastructure
On my first day I directly approached Joshi sir and had to ask him for my first task as I was clueless, this being my first internship, he then assigned me with a junior lawyer.
The main floor was divided in 5 sections, 2 being the sir’s chamber and file inventory and 2 were for tables of female and male associates and 1 was for the typists.
The office had no washroom of its own; we had to use the building’s common washroom, no separate washrooms for male and female.
The ground floor had a reception and a conference room
I assisted the junior lawyers in analysing briefs and take part in discussion with counsel.
Apart from that, I had to hop to various courtrooms to take notes and keep a watch on the board to keep a track on the timings hearings as well.
Work environment and people
The work environment was good, the office had air conditioner but was insufficient for the weather at times and the wall fan was too noisy.
There is Wi-Fi but interns and juniors can only access to the internet from computers.
The associates were very helpful and open for guidance.
The seniors shout at the peak of their voices at times.
For a beginner, it’s a nice place to learn the ground work as this is a solicitors’ firm so you get very few legal tasks until you are an experienced intern.
Work load is lesser than expected.
You need to approach the seniors to ask for tasks constantly otherwise you may find yourself sitting idle at times.
Kolkata is my home town.
9 am – 6 pm for interns.
Timings were relaxed.
