Good things about the University based on your personal experience

No matter how much we dread law school journey in terms of its pressure, there are always some perks.

For USLLS one of the major perks is the location, it is very near to metro station which makes it really feasible for students to travel.

Another perk is the availability of a dedicated law library apart from the central library. The frank and available alumni base of the university makes it very convenient for young minds to seek guidance.

The classrooms are not like auditorium and the batch strength is limited to a small no. which provide one on one interaction with the faculty and quality feedback (off course you should be active too).

The various no. of clubs to choose from be it dance, drama, singing, painting, or dedicated law school committees is another cherry on top.

As its one of the schools under GGSIPU you also get a chance to interact with students of other fields and procession in the campus through numerous activities.

Bad things about the University based on your personal experience

I would like to bust the myth that some of us have while entering Law School, unfortunately It’s not like Suits and you can’t pave your way like Mike and being Harvey is out of question.

Just like any other 12th grade pass out, I had a very dreamy perception about the Law School Life. But it didn’t work in my favor.

The administration a bit slow at times, academic calendars are very tentative and Moot society since we have entered is very dormant (things are getting better though).

How’s the faculty?

Like any other law school, there is a mix of really great and moderate faculty members (it is a very subjective thing).

However everyone is approachable and quite helpful. If you are active enough, I am sure you would be able to form a small family with them alongside (I personally do).

How’s the infrastructure? Mention some of the things that exist.

If you ever get a chance, come and have a stroll in the lush green roads and beautiful campus of ours (yes too Bollywood but true).

The buildings are well ventilated with proper cleaning and lift facilities, the central library is very huge and a treat to eyes for any book lover.

We have dedicated tennis court, swimming pool, basketball court, volley ball court and two side parks too. The Nescafe and Amul outlets are another perk too.

How’s your hostel experience?

I haven’t personally been able to get into hostel yet (credits to corona) but I have done my research (based on personal experience of people).

They really miss the amazing hostel life, the rooms are clean, separate room for every individual and with proper laundry facilities and great food of mess.

The curfew time for girls is nearly 9 to 10 at night and proper security is ensured for all the students. the grievances are taken care of by the redressal committee.

One side line is, the hostel is for GGSIPU as in whole, so there are students from other courses as well.

How are your peers?

The crowd in USLLS is very diverse and one thing I personally take guarantee of is that the senior base is very helpful and supportive.

Be it your quarter life crisis, flavors of coffee, academic pressure rants, gossips, moral and professional guidance and support.

They are 24*7 available for their juniors. I know it might sound so exaggerated but yes, it’s true, people are extremely chill and experienced.

The environment promotes healthy competition among batchmates, and as it’s a saying every new batch is really tech-savvy and more active so is the case with every new junior batch.

How are the placements in your college?

USLLS has a fully functioning training and placement cell which interacts with the corporate and business world from time to time.

To ensure smooth and subtle participation of students with the corporate world and also to inculcate important skills required to secure a good job at the time of placements.

Campus placement is not that satisfactory, if we consider last year’s placements,40% of students got placed due to the pandemic.

The highest package offered was roughly about 4 LPA. Around 11% of students got internships in well recognised law firms.

There are also chances that students might get placed at big and small tier law firms accordingly via off campus placements.

How are the co-curriculars in your college?

Events, fests and other extracurricular activities are judiciously conducted by the college administration.

Our college’s annual fest ‘Anugoonj’ is a grand and much celebrated event among all colleges, other sports events and cultural activities are also promoted.

There is a DSW association of clubs called srijan under which the students have options to enroll in various societies of the university, which varies from Drama, literary wing, singing, dancing, poetry, gender championship, ADR CELL, constitutional club, Debating Society even NSS and NCC clubs are available too.

For Sports we have basketball team, volleyball team etc. though corona got the best of it.

Now talking about moots, unfortunately since the time our batch entered our moot society has been a dormant.

The reason being its being revamped so we didn’t have an opportunity to have a full-fledged moot court society mentoring and interaction, the past laurels (pre-covid have been very exemplary though).

What are some of the things you’d advise to a 1st year aspirant who enters your college?

Do not come with extraordinary high hopes, being active and optimistic is good to an extent, however do not give up on the law student spirit.

One thing about USLLS is that it’s very student run, so you can go a long way if you want to take up initiatives by yourself, though the administration is a bit slow at times.

The reason being it’s not a separate law college but comes under the aegis of GGSIPU so a long chain of administrative work.
