About the Speaker

Prof. (Dr.) Upendra Baxi is a legal scholar and in 2011, sir was awarded the Padma Shri, the fourth highest civilian award in India, by the Government of India. Since 1996, Sir has been the Professor of Law in Development at the University of Warwick, United Kingdom. He has been the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Delhi (1990–1994), prior to which he held the position of Professor of Law at the same university for 23 years (1973–1996). He has also served as the vice-chancellor of the University of South Gujarat, Surat, India (1982–1985).
