About the Speaker

Ms. Ujjaini Chatterji is an advocate based out of Delhi. She holds an LLM in Human Rights Law from the University of Nottingham for which she was awarded the GREAT scholarship and the Developing Solutions scholarship. During her course, she received another fully funded scholarship from the School of Law, University of Nottingham, to attend the Summer School for Human Rights Defenders in the Venice School for Human Rights Defenders (European Inter-University Centre for Human Rights and Democratisation). She represented the University of Nottingham and achieved high scores in the Oxford Union debate, King’s College debate and Philip C. Jessup Moot Court Competition.

Apart from her scholarships, Ujjaini self-funded her entire post-graduation journey. She worked in several jobs like waitressing, bartending, toilet cleaning, housekeeping, theatre, comedy mascot, etc. In this journey full of adventure and risks, she attended and networked at several international law conferences while also making bohemian friends who often lived on the streets as they travelled the world.

Ujjaini arranged the funds for her international internships, conferences and travels by working on her various part-time jobs. In fact, when she returned to India, she came back with savings of about 3,000 GBP. Ujjaini invested this money to start her private litigation practice in India. Since 2019, Ujjaini has assisted Ms Indira Jaising as a Junior, been a columnist and law reporter and has independently handled several cases pertaining to human rights law.
