Full name of your college

University Institute of Legal Studies, Panjab University (UILS)

Full Address

University Institute of Legal Studies, Panjab University, Sector 14, Chandigarh – 160014.

Good things about the University based on your personal experience

I am a student at in UILS. The university has a traditional root and has a lot of cultural values attached to it.

The Faculty of Law was established in year 2004 with the aim to provide modern techniques in studying law. This department has a very good face value in the nation.

The alumnus of this institute are judges and civil servants amongst others. However, with the time it has started a free legal aid society to help the needy.

Further to craft advocacy skills in the students, it has a moot court society, literary society, ADR-CCL, NCC, etc. as part of it’s co-curriculars. There is a society that organizes quiz boards.

Bad things about the University based on your personal experience

The real test happens when the times are difficult.

Thus, in the beginning of the pandemic, the university could not blend into the transition properly. The admission process was delayed.

The institute does not provide much guidance in writing research papers. And college societies also have taken no step in this regard.

How’s the faculty?

The faculties of the institution are good. However, their teaching methodologies are outdated.

They don’t try to encapsulate any modern techniques for imparting knowledge. Irrespective, some professors are really good and very helpful.

How’s the infrastructure? Mention some of the things that exist.

Since my admission happened during the pandemic, I haven’t been able to experience the real college life. However, according to my seniors, it’s a good experience.

How are your peers?

My peers are quite good. They have always helped me a lot.

Firstly, I have seen seniors who don’t help their juniors and classmates who show no love and affection towards their batchmates. But in this institution, I feel the peers are good.

A few of my seniors are like elder brothers and sisters to me. I even remember my first day at college, when I got messages from seniors and they helped us make new friends and settle in this institution.

They not only provide us information about different societies but also share their personal experiences. They also gave us free lectures and acted as mentors.

How are the placements in your college?

The placement is not very good. However the college provides ways to enhance one’s CV and abilities. For this different webinars were organized.

However, only a few students got placed. Though on the contrary , it is really good for judicial services, since many of our students become judges every year.

How are the co-curriculars in your college?

Co-curricular activities are one of the most important things that a student enjoys during their college years. And for some students, it is the main reason to choose any college.

Co-curricular activities are very important to enhance one’s abilities in various skill sets. UILS always keeps this thing in mind.

Therefore, this institute organizes various fests, moots, cultural activities, debates and more specifically quiz competitions. The institute has a number of societies too. However, owing to the pandemic some societies did a wonderful work while a few others were sleeping.

What are some of the things you’d advise to a 1st year aspirant who enters your college?

UILS is a good place if you want to join the judiciary or appear for the civil services.

However, if you want to opt for litigation then too it’s a good pick, since this institution has a face value that will help you at a later stage.
