Duration and Timings:
One month, six days a week, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. however there is no restriction in working beyond that time or even on Sundays.
I have my residence in Jaipur, but for outsiders accommodation is not a problem as there are many PG’s near the location provide accommodation at reasonable rates of Rs. 4000 to Rs.5000/ month.
First impression. First day, formalities etc.
Even on the first day, there were absolutely no formalities except a casual, cursory introduction. We were asked about the past internships and areas of interest. On the first day we were given some matter related to patents which we had to brief in the evening.
The main task during my internship at the Law Desk was to read the files related to civil, criminal, consumer, intellectual property, corporate law, research upon the related matters and do the drafting of the matters listed in the near future.
In the starting days we were told only brief and make the summary of the consumer matters but subsequently we were given research and drafting work. We were also given the task to file notices, replying to them and filing RTI’s in different public offices.
The best part was to research work on a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) related to use of mobile phones by the prisoners in Jaipur Central Jail in which Sir was appointed as the amicus curiae.
Other good experiences were PIL related to mobile towers and drafting of an appeal.
In addition to briefing, drafting and research work court visit and client interaction was a superb experience. I got to visit the Supreme Court, High Court of Rajasthan, Company Law Board(Delhi), PMLA (money laundering tribunal), State Commission and several District Courts in Jaipur, Alwar and Ajmer,
Work environment, people
The work environment at the Law Desk is fabulous as Mr. Prateek Kasliwal gives particular importance to the interns and provide them with interesting tasks every day. The juniors under him are really hard working and humorous who will never make you feel bored and fatigue.
In the lunch time interns used to sit with the staff and have the lunch together while enjoying the court experiences, jokes and pulling each others legs. On weekends Sir used to order some snacks for us.
The best thing about the the Law Desk is the exposure of practicalities and encouragement that you are given to work hard.
There was an occasion when we had to work in the office for two days rigorously without any break to prepare 25 copies of a appeal related to money laundering, each file having 1000 pages for which sir organized a surprise dinner for us.
Sir believes in giving practical experience and variety of work rather than giving same type of tasks again and again. He would also take the feedback about the firm and its working and never deny you to take the matter of your interest.
He would treat you like a friend after the office hours and narrate his experiences in legal field.
Sometimes you may find that the drafting work is too lengthy which eats a lot of time and you may sit idle on some days when sir is not in the office.
What did you do to chill?
The location of the firm is awesome as it is full of greenery and just a few meters away from Raja Park one the best markets of Jaipur where you would find variety of eateries and several places to explore every day.
The main market of Jaipur is also not at much distance from the firm.
Nahargarh and other nearby hill spots are also one of the best places to chill.
Stipend is paid to the encourage interns who work hard and spend more time in the office.
I was paid Rs. 3000/-.
It is not the toughest of tasks to get internship in this office.
Intern at the Law Desk only if you find it in yourself to work hard and not whine about it. Hard work is acknowledged and there really is a lot to learn.
By the end of the month, you will have learnt how to frame notices and a good knowledge on different matters including civil, criminal, consumer, taxation, intellectual property, corporate law and many more.
I would rate the experience 8/10.
