Duration of Internship and timings

First impression, first day formalities, infrastructure

My first impression of the place was of a very happy and a joyous place where everyone was very welcoming and warm.

First day formalities included an introduction with my fellow interns and with Rizwan Sir and Sumita Ma’am who gave a presentation about the aim and objectives of the organisation which was the development and education of persons with disability.

Later we were introduced with Jo Chopra Ma’am who is the Executive Director of LRF.

The infrastructure is very homely as it is a bungalow converted into an office with a kitchen and is nestled among rows of trees.

Main tasks

Different projects and assignments were allotted to every intern. My project was a critical analysis of the Rights of the Persons with Disability Act, 2016 vis-a-vis UNCRPD, 2006 and the PWD Act, 1995.

We also attended a number of workshops by specialists in their fields like Jo Chopra Ma’am, Ravi Chopra Sir, Arti Ma’am, Anshuman Sir, Sandeep Sir and Dr. Chandola on topics ranging from the scenario of education in India to the medical aspects of disability.

We also visited Gubbara Center, Doon Hospital which is an early intervention center for children with disability and the Chief Medical Officer’s office with Rizwan Sir where we sat at the help desk to assist people who came to have their disability certificates made.

Work environment and people

The best part about the organisation is their work environment which is extremely friendly and warm.

They are generally very happy and chirpy and have a long lunch break where everyone sits together to eat and talk.

They also have cake parties on special occasions.

One such occasion was Sumita Ma’am’s birthday where Jo Ma’am made a very delicious cake for everyone.

Best things

Everything from work to the environment including our very friendly supervisor, Rizwan Sir.

Bad things

Not a single thing.

Biggest Lessons

It was an eye opener as to the amount of work an organisation can bring about in the society with smiles on their faces.

I had my own accommodation but other students were mainly localites.

Office Timings

Monday to Friday, 9 am to 4 pm.
