Kranti’s Dissent Conference : Sunday | Sep 15 | Bangalore

Kranti and the Centre for Gandhian Studies invite you to the Dissent Conference.

We bring to you discussions, photographs and performances to explore a few expressions of dissent in India today.

  • Date: Sunday 15th September 2013
  • Venue: Jnana Jyothi Auditorium, Central College Premises, Palace Road, Bangalore-560001
  • Time: 10.00 a.m. to 5.00 p.m.
  • Registration: 9.30 a.m. to 10.00 a.m.

Imagining Displacement: Explore the photographs of Amirtharaj Stephen, Vivek Muthuramalingam and Javed Iqbal, each about displacement of people in different contexts. Photos will be on exhibit at the venue.

The Conference on Dissent: A panel of activists and academicians will trace dissent in various spaces in India today. In the first panel we have Prafulla Samantara, Anand Teltumbde, Volga and Gautam Mody share their experiences in displacement, dalit politics, womens’ anti-liqour struggles and new trade unionism respectively.

In the second panel, Mihir Desai and Paranajoy Guha Tahkurta will engage with each other about the law and media, while Jaya Mehta and Amarjeet Sinha will exchange their opinions on government policies as a development economist and a bureaucrat.

Performance by Space Theatre Ensemble: This Goa-based group will perform the powerful “Woman River” and their new act, “Clowns” during the course of the event.
