First impression, first day formalities, infrastructure
On my first day, I reached the office by getting off at the Huda City Centre Metro Station and hitching a cab. The office itself is located in a residential society on the ground floor, one can easily find it within the locality, When I entered the office I was greeted by Mr KP Sir who I had informed prior about my arrival.
The day started with a brief introduction and a personal interview about my interest in legal fields and various questions on my knowledge about law. I was straight away designated to my workstation and given work related to drafting and research. I was told to come in formals each day, be very particular of office timings & was later on introduced to other associates.
During my internship, I was assigned various tasks related to Drafting, Researching & Preparing case reports. The research work was mainly based on various facets of law such as Criminal law, Civil Law, Arbitration law, Education Law, IPR law & Company Law. I was required to call KP Sir each morning before leaving as every day the matters were in Different courts.
I attended court proceeding in NCDRC, High Court, CAT, Patiala House Court, Saket Court and Gurugram District Court; I was supposed to reach the court sharp at 9:30 each day and sometimes straight to the office when I was not required in court as there was always a lot of pending work which had to dealt with for the upcoming days which was already designated to me in advance.
The working environment of KPS required an intern to personally take the whole responsibility of his work & be on his toes always in order to learn and grow. I always had to be well versed with the research work & drafting before submitting to KP sir. He always made sure that the intern was not sitting idle, all the work designated to me had to be completed within the deadlines and he was always there to clear any doubt or confusion during the drafting process.
KP Sir always used to have lunch together while discussing his experience in the field and time to time gave me a treat of delicious delicacies which I will never forget.
On various occasions, I personally accompanied KP sir to meet the clients and prepare reports and handle the matter personally myself. During my internship, I learned and understood the process of procedural law that is required by the courts at every stage. There was no tolerance of sitting idle in the office and the work was already designated prior even before I entered the office.
KP Sir used to take me along to briefing sessions with Senior Advocates which was an amazing experience altogether and I was always given the strict direction to be very clear with the facts and the law that would be applicable. My experience of the internship was beyond anything I can personally hope for, it made me realize many things about being a professional in this field at the same time pushing myself to the extreme in order to learn more.
KP Sir always maintains a friendly atmosphere and the level of work always keeps you busy at the same time, Sir always make sure that the intern is learning at each and every stage & the same time will always have a conversation and connect with the interns on a different level. I personally felt as an associate rather than an intern. My journey in KPS has been the best experience till date in terms of any internship I have undertaken.
Work environment and people
The working experience of KPS has been by far the best experience I ever had. It is the perfect mix of professional and friendly atmosphere altogether. One has to be very disciplined about one’s quality of work towards the firm itself. The tea and coffee are always available.
The best thing about the internship would be I never felt that I was an intern in the firm, Everyone treated me as an associated and the level and quality of work made me feel confident and responsible for the work I provided. I felt like the part of the team at every stage and the office parties were one of the best times after a long tiring day.
There was no bad experience in my viewpoint. The metro commute can initially become quite hectic, if travelling from New Delhi but gradually it becomes a habit and would not bother you.
My biggest lesson would be never be afraid of any matter that comes your way. Always start from the ground work and research well. No matter the nature of the case, One shall be prepared for anything and willing to learn at any moment no matter where he or shall reach at any given point in life.
One has a lot of options in and around the office in terms of PG accommodations in Gurugram itself.
