IFIM is “The Startup Law School”. What does that mean?
Well we do not see ourselves as just another run of the mill college offering a five-year integrated BBA.LL.B. program.
At IFIM, the emphasis is on providing our students with a more holistic educational experience. The core curriculum is taught by experienced faculty members with foreign law degrees and is complemented by co-curricular as well as extra-curricular activities.
Slowly but surely, we are developing a vibrant mooting and debating culture, with several students already having participated in international competitions.
We also have a dedicated internship and placement cell that attends to students’ career goals and ensures their professional development. We have a world-class campus with state of the art infrastructure which facilitates ICT (Information and Communication Technologies) usage in the teaching-learning process.
The law library, which is the heart of a law school, is also being curated and it already boasts of some excellent national and international legal titles.
We also have excellent hostel and sports facilities, a fully quipped gym and professional trainers. All of this makes IFIM Law College a prime destination for legal education in Bangalore city, India’s Silicon Valley.
IFIM Law College is affiliated to the Karnataka State Law University (KSLU) and is approved by the Bar Council of India.
The core curriculum, which has been designed by KSLU, is augmented by various add-on courses that have been designed by our accomplished faculty members in niche areas like medical jurisprudence, international trade law, competition law and trial advocacy.
The emphasis is on experiential learning and this is reflected in our curriculum design. As far as in-class teaching is concerned, the emphasis is on how what they are learning in theory works in practice. With this in mind we have engaged practitioners to complement the teaching of the Bar Council of India’s prescribed syllabi.
Our permanent and adjunct faculty members hold degrees from renowned institutions like University College London, the University of Cambridge, the University of Birmingham, BPP Law School London and National Law University Delhi.
Internships and Placements
IFIM Law College is based in Electronics City, Bangalore, where some of the top recruiters in the country are located. There is a saying in the world of legal academia: a law school is only as good as its alumni. With this in mind, the aim of IFIM Law College is to produce lawyers who are employable, socially responsible and can adapt to a wide variety of roles and responsibilities in their chosen sphere.
We have a dedicated internship and placement cell which is tasked with obtaining internships for our students’ and placing them with lawyers, law firms, in-house legal departments, public policy thank-tanks and NGOs in their final semester.
As soon as our students arrive, they will have one on one meetings with faculty members as well as the internship and placement coordinator to chart out a career path for them. Each student will be assigned a faculty mentor, and once they are clear about what kind of lawyer they want to be, every effort is made to ensure that they are exposed to their chosen field through apprenticeships.
Mooting is the centerpiece of IFIM Law College’s law program. Every student is encouraged, and is in fact expected, to take part in at least one moot court competition during their 5 years of legal study. A Moot Court Committee will oversee the functioning of the student-run Moot Court Society (MCS).
Members and office bearers of the MCS will be elected on an annual basis and will be tasked with the responsibility of ensuring the smooth functioning of the society. A moot court coordinator, with vast experience in training moot teams has also been appointed to coach the students. We also have a brand new state-of-the-art Moot Court room of international standard that has been meticulously designed.
This calendar year alone, our students have taken part in 12 moot court competitions, with the highlight being our participation in the 57th Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition 2016.
IFIM Law College is spread over 2 acres of land and the infrastructure consists of a computer lab, an integrated Wi-Fi enabled campus, student activity areas such as a lounge and snack bar, newly constructed classrooms of varying seating capacities with air conditioners, three conference halls, a centrally air-conditioned auditorium, an amphitheater, placement office, admissions office and an administration department.
The hostel is located on a lush two acre site and is located within 2 kilometres from the campus. Transportation to and from the hostel is available.
