Application Process with contact details

I applied on the email id [email protected] a year in advance. I was made to write a paper and then subsequently after a telephonic interview I was selected for the internship.

Duration of internship and timings

7th December, 2015 to 7th January, 2016

First impression, first day formalities, infrastructure

It was my first time in a tier one law firm. I was working in the Corporate Office. The Corporate Office occupies the 10th and the 13th floor at the One Indiabulls Building. The Building is stunning and you might get lost in you way.

The office was fancy, huge and very well managed. We were asked to wait for the HR who gave us our respective teams to us. We were made to read certain agreements and sign them. By the time we were allotted our desks it was 5 in the evening.

The HR then introduced us to our respective teams. I was allotted to the Funds Team. Each team had Associates, Senior Associates, Principal Associates and Partners.

Khaitan also has a buddy system as in one buddy is provided to all the interns. My buddy was a great person to work with.

Main tasks

The work at Khaitan was mostly clerical. Like 60% of the work I did. I had 20 co interns and most of the time all of us had clerical work.

Proof reading, Indexing, Tabulation of data etc etc. The great part about working at Khaitan is that they even acknowledge this clerical work done by you. They believe that no work is big or small. They appreciate you for these works done by you.

Apart from the above, I found myself researching on a lot of interesting topics involving The Companies Act, The Competition Act, 2002 and The Public Trusts Act. I was asked to make notes on various topics. I was asked to prepare Annexures for an agreement.

My work was involved drafting of the Shareholders Agreement and various other agreements.

Work environment and people

The work environment is amazing. Best in all the places I have worked till date. The people are mostly sweet, ready to help and amazing. The Partners are the best people ever.

You can walk into their office anytime and they are always ready to help. The office is very fancy. You always have an event in the office.

They also have an intern session every week. They have a session of interns with the recruiting partners as well.

Best things

Great work environment, amazing people and amazing hot chocolate. You do learn to an extent. Try and make contacts.

Bad things

Nothing bad really. Except for the fact that the clerical work gets boring and monotonous at times.

Rs. 8500/-

Biggest Lessons

No work is big or small. Respect the work you get it and do it. When the partners can come and print papers for an hour, even you can.

I have my house in Mumbai in Goregaon, so accommodation was not an issue. Khaitan has two offices one for the Corporate Team and the other for the litigation team.

The office for the Corporate Team is located at Elphinstone Road and the Litigation office is located at Fort. There are a number of hostels available around these ares. Oyo Rooms is also an option.

Office Timings

The office timings begin around 9:30 in the morning and has no fixed time for the evening. The official evening timings are 6:30. However, you never find yourself leaving at that time.

The time you are leaving depends upon the team you are working with and the amount of work you had. I remember, I was asked to complete some work on the First of January.
