About the project:
The Ministry has approved the project proposal submitted by Gujarat National Law University entitled ‘Bail Reforms in the Context of Under Trial Women Prisoners: An action-oriented Research with Special Reference to Sabarmati Central Jail in the State of Gujarat’.
The aim is to conduct research with specific objectives of identifying the key factors and grounds for refusing to grant bail for under-trial prisoners, to understand the problems encountered by women under-trial prisoners while availing the bail in both bailable and non-bailable offences.
Further, the study will also cover the empirical research in terms of identifying the problems of women prisoners languishing in Jails in the State of Gujarat with special reference to the Sabarmati Central Jail.
The study shall propose the necessary amendments in the existing bail provisions enshrined under the Criminal Procedure Code, 1973 and also for incorporating separate provision regarding grounds for granting bail to under trial women prisoners.

Education and Experience:
a) Candidates must have LLB/LLM/MA in Criminology or any other social science/social work/social welfare background.
b) Experience and knowledge in Legal/Correctional/Judicial Policy research would be an advantage.
(The interview committee may elect a candidate who, otherwise not having required educational background, in the view of committee members, meets desired knowledge, skills, abilities and aptitude in the larger interests if the project.)
a) Compilation, Categorization and analysis of the Supreme Court and High Courts cases, Reports, Committees concerning Bail Matters, Rights of the Under-trial prisoners for the Project “Bail Reforms in the context of under Trial women Prisoners: An action-oriented research with special reference to Sabarmati Central Jail in the state of Gujarat”;
b) Conduct library and internet-based research;
c) Undertake field visits for the collection of data, interviews, etc. to the Supreme Court and High Courts, Jail, Jail Officials, Law Department etc.;
d) Verify the validity and accuracy of data/cases collected, categorized and entered in databases;
e) Analyze and interpret cases and prepare research findings for dissemination to the relevant stakeholders;
f) Interact with internal and external contacts, including faculty, legal experts, researchers, and other stakeholders;
g) Perform any other duties that may be assigned from time to time by Principal investigator of the project.
