About the Law College

Dr. Ambedkar Government Law College, Puducherry formerly known as Government Law College Pondicherry was established by the Government of Puducherry in the year 1972 and has been imparting high standard legal education to students since then.

Presently, the Institution is affiliated to Pondicherry University (A Central University). Prior to its affiliation to Pondicherry University in 1986-87, the Institution was affiliated to Madras University.

The present campus of the College is located at Kalapet, the outskirts of the city of Pondicherry with a green campus sprawling about 28 acres with requisite infrastructure.

About the Job Recruitment

Dr. Ambedkar Government Law College, Puducherry, is seeking to recruit for the post of Assistant Professor (Law) to fill up 8 vacancies for the same.

Number of Vacancies and Breakdown

  • Unreserved (UR): 04

  • Economically Weaker Section (EWS): 01
  • Scheduled Tribe (ST): 01

The vacancies are suitable for candidates belonging to category of Persons with Benchmark Disability (PwBD) viz. Blindness and Low Vision with disability i.e. Blind (B) or Low Vision (LV), Locomotor Disability including Cerebral Palsy, Leprosy Cured, Dwarfism, Acid Attack Victims and Muscular Dystrophy with disability i.e. Both legs affected but not arms (BL) or One leg affected (R or L) (OL) or One arm affected
(R or L) (OA).

Responsibilities of the Assistant Professor (Law)

Teaching in the respective discipline and other related academic work in Dr. Ambedkar Government Law College, Puducherry.

HQ: Puducherry.

Nature of the Job

The post is permanent.

General Central Service Group- “A” Gazetted (Non-Ministerial)

Pay Scale

Pay Scale: Level- 10 in the Pay Matrix as per 7th CPC

Age: 35 years


Educational Qualifications:

  • Good academic record as defined by the concerned University with at least 55% marks (or an equivalent grade in a point scale wherever grading system is followed) at the Master’s Degree level in Law from an Indian University, or an equivalent degree from an accredited foreign University.
  • Besides fulfilling the above qualifications, the candidate must have cleared the National Eligibility Test (NET) conducted by the UGC/CSIR or similar test accredited by the UGC like SLET/SET.
  • Notwithstanding anything contained in the above 2 sub-clauses, candidates, who are, or have been awarded a Ph. D Degree in accordance with the University Grant Commission (Minimum Standards and Procedure for award of PhD degree) Regulation 2009 shall be exempted from the requirement of the minimum eligibility condition of NET/SLET/SET for recruitment and appointment of Assistant professor or equivalent positions in Universities/Colleges/Institutions.
  • NET/SET/SLET shall also not be required for such Masters Programmes in discipline for which NET/SET/SLET is not conducted.

Note-1: A relaxation of 5% may be provided at the graduate and master’s level for the scheduled caste/scheduled tribe/differently-abled (physically and visually differently-abled) categories for the purpose of eligibility and for assessing good academic record during direct recruitment to teaching
The eligibility marks of 55% marks (or an equivalent grade in a point scale wherever grading system is followed) and the relxation of 5% to the categories mentioned above are permissible, based on only the qualifying marks without including any grace mark procedures.

Note-2: A relaxation of 5% may be provided from 55% to 50% of the marks to the Ph. D Degree holders, who have obtained their Master’s Degree prior to 19th September, 1991.

NOTE: The qualifications are relaxable at the discretion of the Union Public Service Commission, for reasons to be recorded in writing, in the case of candidates otherwise well qualified.

How to Apply?

Application Fee

  • Gen/OBC/EWS male candidates: Rs. 25/- (Rupees Twenty five) only
  • SC/ST/PwBD/Women candidates of any community: NIL (Exempted)
    • Mode of Payment: The fee is to be paid either by remitting the money in any branch of the SBI by cash or by using net banking facility of the SBI or by using visa/master credit/debit card.

Application Procedure

  • Candidates must apply online through the website Applications received through any other mode would not be accepted and summarily rejected.
  • Candidates who wish to apply for more than one post should apply separately for each post and pay the fee for each post in the prescribed manner.
  • After submitting the Online Recruitment Application (ORA), the candidates are required to take out a print out of the finally submitted Online Recruitment Application.
  • Candidates are not required to submit to the Commission either by post or by hand the printouts of their online applications or any other document. They will be required to bring along with them the printouts of their online applications and the documents mentioned in para 7 (of the official advertisement) if called for interview.
  • The applicants are advised to submit only single Online Recruitment Application for each post; however, if somehow, if he/she submits multiple Online Recruitment Applications for one post, then he/she must ensure that ORA with the higher “Application Number” is complete in all respects including fee.
  • The applicants, who submit multiple ORA, should note that only the Online Recruitment Application with higher “Application Number” shall be entertained by the Commission and fee paid against one
  • “Application Number” shall not be adjusted against any other “Application Number”.
  • The candidates are advised to submit the Online Recruitment Application well in advance without waiting for the closing date.
