After a thorough reading on the requirements and the nature of the various works offered, I felt that as a law student ASICS (a department within Janaagraha) would be the apt department for me to intern and  therefore applied for the same. I got an internship confirmation mail within a day.

I sent a reply to the confirmation seeking the mail address of my mentor and after receiving the same, I enquired about the nature of work and the preparations that i should do to be equipped for the internship.

Internship Experience:

On the first day I was briefed by my mentor about the ASICS report, its importance and the goal behind the whole innovative concept of measuring the development of cities on various parameters and I was asked to go through the previous year reports to gain fair idea.

Further during the course of internship I mainly dealt with urban law and urban governance system as I was with ASICS (Annual Survey of India City Systems). The internship work I did included collection of data required for the preparation of the report, research on the urban governance structure in ASICS benchmark cities which are New York, Johannesburg and London, research on the municipal elections and political structure of the cities.

I had to skim through the urban laws of the required international cities, municipal government websites and various newspaper and journal articles as part of my work.On the whole the experience was interesting and enriching as I got a good exposure to an area I have never dealt with before I received adequate help and guidance at every stage of my work and my mentor made sure that I could do my work unambiguously.

The entire ASICS team was very welcoming and comfortable to work with. Hence I could have a productive internship, which usually is not a luck that all people with no prior experience get.

I recommend students looking for internship to take a look into the various opportunities offered by Janaagraha, read through the description of internship offered and choose the apt one.
