Duration of internship and timings
15 days
15th June, 2015 – 29th June, 2015
First impression, first day formalities, infrastructure
We witnessed the slum area lying in an industrial area.Government school was though well maintained. Infrastructure was only okay but the coordinators Yash & Ritika were welcoming.
Main tasks
Survey and analysis on Child beggary and Child Rights. Mapping of the beggars in Chandigarh streets. Interview with child beggars & helping in their rescue operation.
Work environment and people
Work environment was well and fine. Our coordinators and mentor were quite amazing. It was good to work with interns coming from different parts which were ready to be a change. Our coordinators put their best hand forward to make the internship a good learning experience with maximum exposure.
Best things
The best thing was helping in the rescue operation of child beggar. We witnessed the lives of slum children & people. Teaching those children & trying our hand in being a detective was worth of. First time experience in street play and dancing with those tiny tots was totally amazing.
Bad things
Away from the main city, seeing the children’s parents who were not ready to teach their children.
Stipend
Valuable use of registration fee. Thus no question regarding no stipend.
Biggest Lessons
Money management was the biggest lesson. To be independent and to never intern alone in an NGO.
Any Other Thing
Got certificate of honour after completion of the internship.
This was really a wonderful experience and one must definitely try at least once in a lifetime.
