First impression, first day formalities, infrastructure
On the first day at SRGR Law Offices, I was introduced to the Associates, and I was scared like crazy. It only increased when one of the associates spoke to me rudely. However, later on, as everyone came by and settled and assigned work, the fear inside me decreased a little.
That day I had to ask if they had any work and they would assign me one, and as the day passed by, I was comfortable enough. The rest of the days after that day were good. I had to fill a form and an undertaking. The office operates on a single floor with 15-17 lawyers, including 5 partners.
Main tasks were research, preparation of notes on various subjects, and assisting in drafting. There was a lot of work and it was quite interesting. I enjoyed working there. There was never a time when we would sit idle. The Associate supervising us, was very helpful and guided us whenever required. Any and every associate or even the partners gave work.
Work environment and people
The work environment was very comfortable and friendly. The Associates gave work, but also were very helpful, and guiding. Even the Partners were very friendly. Before assigning the work, they would explain the history and basics of whatever the situation is and what exactly and how we need to work on the assignment. It was a good experience, very cool working environment.
There is no stipend, no free lunch. 😛 It feels unfair at times. We are working so much, which in turn is of their help only. There should be something for interns too, to keep them motivated.
Never take any work lightly, even if you feel that it is easy, and should be done within the time allotted.
