Your Name, College, Year of Study, Email ID

Ozair Elahi, Faculty of Law, Aligarh Muslim University, 2nd Year, [email protected]

Name of the organisation, Location (city), Team strength

Sandip Agarwal and Co. Advocates, 10, Old Post Office Street Room No 10, Ground Floor, Kolkata- 700 001.

As far as the strength of the office is concerned along with Mr Sandip Agarwal there were 6 associate advocates, 3 permanent accountants and 4 to 5 clerks.

Application process with contact Details

You can apply by sending your CV along with the Cover Letter to the email address: [email protected] or you can call at the office contact no. 033 2210-0583, 4005-6115 , I got the Internship by calling at the office contact no., 2 months prior from the date of the commencement of my Internship.

Duration, Timings

I interned for a period of one month, starting from 6th June, 2014 to 5th July 2014, the timings were from 10.a.m to 6 p.m

First impression, First day formalities, Infrastructure

I was asked to report at the office by 10 a.m.

I waited as Mr. Sandip Agarwal came at 11. a.m and immediately after asking me of my year of study I was given the work on the basis of my knowledge.

I was assigned a workplace of my own along with a personal computer for usage, on the 3rd floor office of the firm. The office was spacious and comfortable, with two out of three of the offices as duplex situated in the same building.

Main Tasks

Major tasks in the firm involved reading genuine cases and making a legal note on the issues related to the matters of Civil, Arbitration and Taxation, to attend Client Meetings and I was even asked to report on Sunday to the chamber of the Senior Advocate of the Calcutta High Court, where I had to brief the respective Advocate about the facts of the case, which I was assigned.

Even be prepared to do some clerical works like making a list of documents for the matters assigned to the Associate Advocates.

Work environment, People

The work environment and the Associates were really very helpful and  any questions regarding the intricacies of law, however basic they were, was answered by the associates with ease and grace.

Best Things

The best thing about the place is that you are not treated as an Intern rather than a part of the firm.

I realized this when I was given the opportunity to brief the Senior Advocate, without any hindrance or interference from any of the associates present there.

There are regular meetings between the interns and Mr Sandip Agarwal to check the progress on our work.

You really get to learn a thing or two about the working of a law firm, the timings are flexible if you live far from the office plus you get a special treat of the Calcutta Biryani if any of the Associate’s birthday falls at the time of the duration of the internship and last but not the least the stipend of Rs. 3000.

Bad Things

Nothing is all good, the only bad thing is the sweltering heat of Kolkata which will be harsh enough to stop you from leaving your air conditioned office during the lunch hours.

Rs 3000.

Biggest Lessons

The biggest Lesson which I learnt is that a criticism should always be taken in a positive manner, in its true spirit rather than the exactitude of the statement, and one should always try to improvise as hard work and determination can take you places even if you do not belong to the National Law Schools.
