First impression, first day formalities, infrastructure
First day of the internship was a disappointment as the court was closed for summer holidays. i was asked to report to Mr Souvik Kundu, who also on account of the court being closed was a lil complacent.
yet he gave a tour of the firm and asked to report back from the upcoming monday i.e. 4th june, 2016
As I was in my 2nd year and the majority of the work which happened was relating to the civil disputes, it was very difficult to find a proper work for me. But then once I got familiar with the stuff, I was asked to prepare brief on arbitration matters, make documents pertaining to list of dates, and case synopsis.
I was also asked to research about the maintainability of the various suits and execution of the deeds.
Work environment and people
Work environment was very easy going initially but as I got familiar, then the work started flowing in large numbers.
The number of people working in the firm is less yet the efficiency is pretty high. the people are very much work-centric but the environment is very homely. You would never feel out of place in such an environment.
Best thing is the nature of the people and the number of cases that the firm deals in. The plethora of cases doesn’t leave space for idle time and boredom.
The exact location can be a little tricky to spot, the building contains a lot of other firms and people whoa are extra health conscious would not find it an ideal place to survive. but for people like me who somehow survive its very good place to intern.
Never to do an internship under the solicitor firm as early as 2nd year.
It takes a lot more than just legal sense to match with the working of the firm.
The ideal time to do such an internship would be either 4th year or towards the last part of 3rd year.
PG is not provided, have to look on your own.
But in a place like Calcutta one can easily find PGs starting at rs 3000 pm. The PG where I was staying was far from the firm but there are other PG which are located at a distant of 25-30 mins from the firm.
The firm is located near the High Court, which is very well connected with public transport by means of road and water.
Office timings were some what flexible. starting from 10:30 am in the morning to 4:00 pm in the afternoon or sometimes when the matter is to be heard the next day, the day office would end at around 6:00 pm
